What is a Karuna Session?

A Karuna Session is a ritual experience of human connection. We have taken a radical approach to health and wellness of the physical body by caring for our clients as humans have always cared for their young: through compassionate, nurturing touch and embrace. We can give you a respite from the stresses of daily life in just sixty minutes and give you an opportunity to feel comforted and cared for. 

We have designed a simple, five-step process that reboots the mind, relaxes the body, relieves the heart and refreshes the soul:

Initiation: Transition from daily life into our world with a ritual that allows you to feel welcomed, honored, cared for and - most importantly - in control of your experience.

You will be blessed, have your feet washed, meditate and change into clothing we provide for you.

 

Introduction: Establish trust and boundaries, review protocol and ground rules. Receive compassionate touch at a slow, gentle pace. Stimulate your body's natural oxytocin production.

We will discuss what we will and won't do, and how you can get the most out of your session. We will cover what you should do if you're feeling physically uncomfortable and how to communicate your emotional discomfort, if any. We will touch your hands, face, arms, feet, legs, heart, belly and back.

Immersion: Experience feeling safe, peaceful and nurtured as two practitioners embrace you in a fashion that mimics being held by your mother as an infant. Immersion is rare opportunity to get out of your head and into your body.

You will lie on one side, with one practitioner embraces you from behind, and the other from the front. You will have an opportunity to switch sides halfway through the embrace. Talking and interaction is kept at a minimum.

Integration: Anchor the peace and relaxation felt during Immersion into your body's muscle memory. This step is similar to shavasana in yoga.

We will set you up with a body pillow and a blanket and leave you to be still and alone with your feelings. Napping is highly encouraged.

 

Closure: Enjoy a light snack, ask questions, process your thoughts, prepare for re-entry into the default world and bid a fond adieu to your practitioners. 

We will come and wake you up, and ask you to change back into your street clothes. You will join us on the couch to enjoy tea and some sweet and savory nibbles. You can ask us any questions, or give us any feedback, before we say goodbye.
